Solaris T4-4 Boot from ISO Image using ILOM console redirection

You need to boot your T4-1 or T4-4 SPARC system from your ISO boot and install image you have on your PC. The following steps allow you to accomplish this. This is known as an ILOM remote CD-ROM redirection. Here you mount an ISO image from your local PC hardrive as a virtual DVD available as a boot image on your T4 system. Pretty slick really. To implement the ILOM remote CDROM or DVD redirection you need to initiate a web browser session with your systems ILOM and launch the console. Below are the required steps.

  1. Using a browser, connect to your servers ILOM ie. https://1.2.3.4 and login
  2. Launch the console
  3. click on Devices
  4. click on CD-ROM images
  5. file manager appears, map the ISO location to the image
  6. start /HOST/console
  7. obp devalias will show you a boot ISO alias called vcdrom
  8. boot vcdrom

This is very slick. I with this was available for the V class systems in the early 2000’s. Jumpstart was clunky but worked. Still aint no Ignite server, but it does the job. I digress……Hope this helps your day go smoother ?

Cheers
